Athletics Club members are a friendly bunch who meet each week at the Concorde Centre. The prime activity on Wednesday Night is a Club run, followed by a retreat to the non-smoking section of the bar. Special Wednesday Night social evenings are also arranged where food is available. The club run commences at 6.00pm and there are always runners of your ability to accompany, setting out on short jogs up to marathon training. Just make yourself known to one of the assembled horde, and someone will be happy to run with you.

Once a month we partake in a "Club in House Event", usually a novelty event designed to give all standards an opportunity to get involved, but still test the mettle or our elite five minute milers. This might take the form of a hash, Parlauf, handicap event or other fiendish scheme.

Each month a group of runners travels to enter the "Run of the Month", which may be as local as the Hillingdon Half Marathon or as distant as a race in Hood To Coast, Portland, Oregon. The highlight of the year is the World airline Road race, which this year will be run in Texas, on the weekend of the 9th to 11th September 2011.

Two of our most important races are based around Heathrow in early summer; the popular Speedbirds 5k will be held on 18th May 2011 and Concorde 10k, which has been set for the 8th May 2011. Forms are on the Athletics notice board in the entrance hall of the Pavilion, on this intranet site or contact Paul Knechtl (020 873) 86842.

The club has wider interests than just road running. Each winter, a few hardy souls trudge through the mud and ice in the cross Country League. We have a thriving triathlon group (including one octogenarian), who travel the world reciting the mantra "swim/run/bike" before every event. These people are really fit!

Track and field comes into it's own in the summer. We have use of the Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Eton throughout the Summer and Winter season, giving runners a chance to sharpen their sprinting skills and measure their times more accurately. The pits, sectors and cages are all there, so any novice or experienced field eventers are encouraged to come and join in the fun. Grand Prix sessions are also arranged at TVAC. These involve Track and Field events, that are timed or measured and points ascertained according to the time or distance run or thrown.

The Track and Field team compete in the Rosenheim league and other competitions throughout the summer, and club members are encouraged to tackle their strongest event or to try something new. The season culminates in the ASCA competition in August 2008, with the venue still to be decided.
